Psst—don’t tell anyone: many stitch markers simply bother me in my hand. They’re too stiff and don’t sit comfortably in my hand while I’m knitting.
That’s why, when knitting, I use my simple, handmade markers almost exclusively for marking rounds—DIY, inexpensive, and beautiful.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make your own perfect stitch markers quickly and easily.
Below, you’ll find a lovely PDF that you can print out and put in your project bag, so you can make new markers whenever you like. After all, a knitter can never have enough stitch markers!
Things to keep in mind:
Use sturdy yarn if possible (I used waxed yarn).
Try to pull the knots as tight as possible so none of them come undone.
These markers are suitable for placing a marker between two stitches. They are simply slipped off in each round. If you want to mark a point in your project, locking stitch markers are more suitable.

"My tip: design your stitch markers exactly as you like. For example, you can make one marker with a larger bead or in a different color."
Supplies:
1 pair of scissors
Materials:
Yarn (thin but sturdy, e.g. waxed; approximately 25 cm per stitch marker)
Wooden beads (unvarnished here, but you can also use colorful ones; ideally use two sizes, approximately 8 mm to 20 mm)
Step 1:
Cut a piece of yarn approximately 25 cm long.
Step 2:
Form a loop and tie a knot. Make sure the loop is large enough to place over your desired needle.
Step 3:
Thread the larger of your beads onto both thread ends.
Step 4:
Thread the smaller of your beads onto just one of the two threads.
Step 5:
Tie the threads behind the second bead and cut off the excess ends.
Your Perfect Stitch Markers fit very comfortably in your hand.
If you knit many pieces in the round, you have to mark several places and constantly keep the markers in the current round. This means they stay in your hand the whole time.
Ready-made markers are often too stiff and hard. They simply don’t feel good.
Your Perfect Stitch Markers are super easy and quick to make. They fit perfectly in your hand and feel great thanks to the natural materials.
Customize your markers to your heart’s content! For example, you could use a colored bead for the main marker, or a slightly larger one.
Your Perfect Markers are affordable, save resources, fit beautifully in your hand, can be made in any quantity you need, and can be supplemented again and again.
Conclusion
The Perfect Markers are an absolute must-have.
Print out the PDF so you always have your instructions at hand and can make new markers whenever you like.
They fit perfectly in your hand, feel great, and will make you happy: your Perfect Stitch Markers.
