You probably know this too: you have a small amount of yarn left over from your project and have no idea what to do with it.
I have the perfect solution for you: the Remember Me Scarf!
This beautiful, soft and cuddly scarf not only looks fantastic, it is also designed to use up all your small—even tiny—yarn leftovers. At the same time, it gives you a charming reminder of all your projects because they are brought together in this scarf.
Further down, you can download the instructions for this scarf as a free PDF, and then you can get started!
Preparations:
Choose thin yarn leftovers and combine them however you like. Anything goes!
For the main color, I chose two skeins of Merino from Knitting for Olive.
Knit a gauge swatch with your yarns; if you want to use thicker yarns, simply adjust the needle size.

thin merino yarn as the main color: 2 skeins of Merino from Knitting for Olive
You’re completely free to choose the right yarn. Combine small leftovers, even in different colors, and be amazed by the wonderful result.
Make sure the yarn weights are roughly the same. If you use yarn that is too thick, you should adjust the needle size.
This way, you can remember all your projects and bring them together. You’ll notice that you have a preference for certain colors and that they appear especially often.
Have fun with the colors and memories!
You begin with three strands and 3.5 mm needles: one strand of Merino by Knitting for Olive and two strands of leftover yarn.
You knit a 3-stitch I-cord edge, meaning the first three stitches of every row are always knitted, and the last three stitches of every row are always slipped with the yarn held in front of the work.
The basic pattern is:
Right-side row: 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch alternately (add increases as appropriate)
Wrong-side row: knit all stitches
Make the increase every 8th row (= wrong-side row): knit 3 sts (I-cord), make 1 increase from the strand between the stitches, knit until three stitches remain at the end of the row, then slip them with the yarn held in front of the work.
The pattern is super easy, works up quickly, and will delight you because it looks beautiful on both sides.
The transitions between the individual yarns are a special feature of the Remember Me Shawl. One base color (Merino by Knitting for Olive) is knitted throughout. Choose a color that matches the color palette of your leftovers. I chose a light shade (powder).
Try to change the colors of the leftover yarns in sequence wherever possible to create a particularly beautiful transition.
Here, shortly before finishing one yarn, simply knit in the next color. It’s best to knit about 10 stitches with both colors (that means 4 strands in total). Then you can remove the old color.
As a special touch, I left the ends sticking out about 2 cm from the knitted piece, so you can still look at them individually. If you prefer, you can also trim them close.
The protruding ends particularly highlight the different colors. I really like that I can still see them individually this way.
Conclusion
I really enjoy using up my leftover yarn and turning it into such a beautiful shawl—it’s something I particularly love!
Combine your colors freely!
The Remember Me Shawl looks amazing and reminds you of all the projects from a single year! It’s also super easy and quick to knit.
Indulge in memories and enjoy reducing your stash!
